Enhanced team at Catella Fondförvaltning

Following changes when four of our portfolio managers chose to resign from their mandates during the summer, Catella has successfully filled these vacancies with experienced portfolio managers. We were able to resolve the matter quickly and really choose the right individuals for the mandates since we already had a process underway and received a large number of applications from highly qualified people.

Martin Nilsson was recruited last year, and has since been responsible for the management of Catella Nordic Long Short Equity alongside Ola Mårtensson. Martin Nilsson was also already responsible for one of the sub-mandates in Catella Hedgefond alongside Sven Thorén. Martin was recruited from Nordea, where he worked as a Nordic equity manager for many years, and he has extensive experience with Nordic equities and is familiar with working using a documented investment process.

Henrik Gripenvik joined us in May this year, bringing research capacity through his nine-year history with the Futuris hedge fund (part of Brummer & Partners Group), where he worked as a sector analyst in engineering, an important sector for the Nordic markets. He is now part of the new team managing Catella Reavinstfond.

Anna Strömberg, with 18 years of experience as a portfolio manager, joined Catella Fondförvaltning on September 1. She has worked with both Nordic and global equities, and has been actively involved in environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) issues. She will bring sustainability expertise to the entire fund management structure. Anna has also performed sector analysis in health and technology, and brings her experience from concentrated portfolios managed on the basis of clear investment processes concerning both fundamental data and sustainability criteria. Anna joins the team managing Catella Reavinstfond.

We have recruited Martin Jonsson and Anders Wennberg to Catella Hedgefond. Both have extensive experience in hedge fund management from working together as managers of the Zenit fund (Brummer & Partners Group) for many years. Martin was CIO for the last four years and Anders was a senior portfolio manager. Both managers have a strong track record from the fund, having individually outperformed the fund as a whole. Both worked at Investor prior to their tenure at Zenit, and Anders also fitted in a few years as an analyst for the RAM (Rational Asset Management) hedge fund. They also have solid experience from working with research, which is now enhancing the entire team's ability to select attractive companies. Martin and Anders, who are used to working in a team, are taking over one of Catella Hedgefond's long/short mandates. The hedge fund will continue to retain its fundamental structure, with a focus on low risk and an annual target return of about 5-6 percent. Catella Hedgefond has one fixed-income mandate, run by the fixed-income managers, plus two different long/short equity mandates that are run by Martin and Anders and by Sven Thorén and Martin Nilsson.

To manage our fixed-income mandates we chose to recruit two people who have worked together for a number of years. Thomas Elofsson and Stefan Wigstrand (both from Skandia) have been in place since the beginning of September. They are managing the fixed-income mandate for Catella Hedgefond and the mandates for our fixed-income funds Catella Avkastningsfond, Catella Nordic Corporate Bond Flex and Catella Credit Opportunity.

Thomas Elofsson joined us from Skandia Investment Management, where he was deputy CEO and a member of the management team. In his role he was responsible for the portfolio management team in fixed-income investments, foreign exchange, credit, tactical allocation and balanced and fixed-income funds. In total, Thomas has more than 20 years of portfolio management experience, including the past 10 years at Skandia. Prior to that he worked at companies including SEB, Handelsbanken, Länsförsäkringar and Danske Bank.

Stefan Wigstrand also joined us from Skandia, where as a senior portfolio manager he was responsible for management of Skandia Liv's credit mandates, institutional credit fund Thule Credit Fund, and the credit mandates of Skandia Fonder's balanced funds. Stefan has 18 years of experience from the financial markets and has worked as an equity analyst and credit analyst at Öhman Fondkommission, plus several years as co-founder and manager of Nexum Capital AB, focusing on the management of credit portfolios.

We therefore feel we have an expert portfolio management team in place at Catella, and we currently see no need for additional recruitment. We were pleased to have been able to attract a large number of applications from highly qualified and experienced managers in the market, and we were able to be selective in choosing the management team. The team is skilled in both absolute-return and relative-return products, with a strong analytical background from multiple sectors, and also has solid expertise in sustainability.
